Minute   Description
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Real Madrid are off and running in their quest for a fourth Champions League crown on the bounce. Julen Lopetegui's men eased to victory over Roma this evening thanks to goals from Isco, Gareth Bale and Mariano Diaz. The Spanish side were in complete control of the contest from start to finish as the visitors failed to make an impression at the Bernabeu. Madrid will be keen to wrap up their place in the last-16 as quickly possible after being handed a favourable draw in Group G.
90'+1 Marcelo offloads to Mariano, who does the rest with a super goal.
GOALLLLLLLLL!!!! MARIANO SCORES A STUNNER!!! 3-0!!!! Mariano scores a special goal on his second debut for Madrid. He collects Marcelo's offload on the edge of the box and turns Manolas with ease. The forward bends a strike towards the top corner and it flies past Olsen, giving the Roma keeper no chance. A stunning strike.
90' There will be three minutes of added time.
Fazio is there again for the visitors to divert Isco's attempt wide of the target.
Ceballos raids forward and looks for the finish, but Fazio is well placed to make the block to stop his strike.
88' SAVE! Dzeko latches on to a deep cross from Florenzi and he directs his header into the ground. The ball takes a bounce on its way to goal and forces a fine save from Navas.
87' Florenzi's low cross almost allows Schick to fire in from a position inside the box, but Carvajal closes to make a vital challenge.
85' Ceballos replaces Modric for the home side.
84' Under has space on the right flank, but he hits a poor low cross into the middle that is cleared with ease by Varane.
83' Roma are looking lethargic in their play across the pitch. A goal now would make things interesting, but they don't seem capable of putting Navas' goal under threat.
81' Madrid are controlling the tempo of the match to see this one out with as little drama as possible.
79' SAVE! Olsen makes a fine save to deny Asensio scoring a brilliant goal. Isco feeds the Spaniard in the box and he turns out of two challenges with an incredible piece of close control. However, he couldn't complete the finish as Olsen was off his line to make the block.
77' The scoreline has not reflected the match in the slightest as the visitors have been well and truly outplayed by Madrid this evening.
76' Dzeko goes into the book for the visitors for a foul on Mariano.
74' SAVE! Kroos is afforded space and time to shoot from the edge of the box. His effort has power, but not the placement to beat Olsen, who makes a sharp stop.
73' Mariano comes on for the final 17 minutes to replace Bale.
72' WIDE! Under has acres of space on counter and breaks forward to the edge of the box. He delays his offload and it allows Madrid to get numbers back behind the ball. Schick takes the eventual effort at goal, only to fire his strike wide of the target.
71' Asensio tries to release Bale into space on the left, but the Welshman checks his run at the last second as the ball heads out for a goal-kick.
69' Nzonzi makes way for Schick for the visitors.
Asensio collects in space on the edge of the Roma box and he attempts to curl an effort past Fazio and Olsen into the net. However, his strike trickles harmlessly wide of the post.
67' WIDE! Casemiro has space and time 20 yards from goal and he launches an effort at goal, but his strike drifts wide of the target.
65' The Italian outfit have not been good enough in the final third. Dzeko has cut an isolated figure for the majority of the contest. It has been all too easy for Varane and Ramos since the restart.
64' Dzeko turns into space down the left flank to latch on to Perotti's pass. The striker wins a corner for the visitors off the legs of Ramos.
62' El Shaarawy makes way for Perotti.
Asensio replaces Benzema for the home side.
60' Madrid have surely wrapped up the three points based on their performance this evening. Roma will have to do something special to get back into the contest.
58' Modric releases the run of Bale with a sublime throughball before the Welshman does the rest with a brilliant finish.
GOALLLLLLLLL!!! BALE FIRES HOME MADRID'S SECOND!!!! 2-0!!!! The Welshman gets his goal this evening at last. Modric releases the run of the forward down the left flank and he has acres of space to run into. Bale holds his composure in the final third, hammering his effort past Olsen into the bottom corner to double his side's advantage. A crisp finish.
57' Kolarov sends a cross to the back post for the run of Under. The Turk forces a header across the face of goal that Navas palms into the middle of the area, forcing Varane to take command of the situation to clear behind.
55' SAVE! Isco threads the needle to release the run of Modric in the middle. The midfielder has to stretch to prod an effort towards goal and it allows Olsen to make a comfortable save.
54' Zaniolo has had a tough time on his debut this evening. He makes way for Pellegrini.
53' Marcelo makes a neat turn to get the better of Florenzi in the final third, but the Brazilian's cross is cleared away from danger by Manolas.
51' OFF THE BAR!!!! Bale is denied by the bar. Marcelo opens up the Roma backline with an incisive pass towards the Welshman. Bale brings it under control and fires at goal, but Fazio gets across to make the closing challenge to deflect the ball on to the bar.
50' WIDE! Madrid break on the counter from the corner and Benzema runs into the left inside channel. He cuts the ball across the face of goal towards Bale, but the Welshman scuffs his effort wide of the post. Marcelo was behind him and may have been better placed to take on the strike.
49' SAVE! Under is denied an equaliser by Navas. Under surges through the Madrid backline, racing towards the edge of the box. He powers a left-footed strike towards the top corner, but Navas gets a hand on the ball to turn it over the bar.
48' Benzema, Bale and Casemiro combine on the edge of the Roma box, but the Brazilian's offload looking for the run of Benzema in the box goes straight through to Olsen.
46' We're back underway at the Bernabeu.
Roma were disappointing in the first half, allowing Madrid to dicate the tempo of the game. The Italian outfit did have a couple of moments on the break, but Eusebio Di Francesco will want to see a lot more from his team in the second period.
Isco's strike on the stroke of half-time handed Real Madrid a deserved lead at the break. The home side dominated the opening 45 minutes, but struggled for a breakthrough. However, the Spaniard displayed a clinical edge from the set-piece, curling his effort into the bottom corner. He has made Julen Lopetegui's teamtalk slightly easier for the Madrid boss, who would have been lamenting his side's poor finishing otherwise.
Madrid clear their lines from the corner with ease.
45'+1 Kolarov whips a free-kick into the box and the ball is cleared behind by Carvajal. Roma will have one final chance before the half ends.
45' There will be one minute of added time.
GOALLLLLLL!!!! ISCO CURLS THE BALL HOME!!! 1-0 MADRID!!! The Spaniard delivers for the home side with a sublime effort to break the deadlock. Isco curls his effort over the leaping wall and Olsen has no chance as the ball finds the bottom corner, with the Swede on the other side of his goal. A super free-kick from the forward.
44' De Rossi goes into the book for his loose challenge.
43' Isco is tripped on the edge of the box as he attempts to latch on to an offload from Benzema. Madrid have a free-kick in a dangerous position.
41' The Italian outfit are holding firm amid the pressure from Madrid. The home side have not been clinical enough in the final third to gain the lead this evening.
39' SAVE! Roma waste a counter as Nzonzi loses possession on the edge of the Madrid penalty area. The home side break with speed before Isco tries a strike from 20 yards, but once again Olsen gets down to palm the ball behind.
CHANCE! Kroos curls the corner to the back post where Ramos gets the better of his man in the air. He powers a header towards the top corner, only to be denied by a fine save from Olsen.
38' SAVE! Marcelo bends a low cross into the middle for the run of Benzema. The Frenchman has to leave the ball as he is in an offside position. The delivery travels towards the bottom corner, but Olsen reacts to turn it past the post.
36' Frustration gets the better of Bale. The Welshman opts against the patient approach after taking possession on the edge of the box, he hammers a left-footed strike well over the bar.
35' Madrid work the ball down the right flank and Carvajal tries to pick out Isco in the middle, but his low cross is repelled by the Roma backline.
33' OVER! Fazio should at least get his header on target from close range. The defender rises highest in the box from Florenzi's cross, only to head his effort over the bar from six yards out. A disappointing attempt.
Ramos is fortunate to remain on the pitch as he catches El Shaarawy, clipping the forward's heels to concede a free-kick on the right flank.
32' BLOCK! Roma hit the home side on the break as Dzeko feeds a pass into El Shaarawy. He tries to beat Ramos, but the defender blocks his shot at goal from a tight angle.
30' Bale brings down Kolarov on the left and the full-back lifts the resulting free-kick into the box. Nzonzi swings his boot at the ball, but he scuffs his effort tamely at Navas.
29' El Shaarawy does well in the middle of the park to break up a passing move between Modric and Bale before winning a free-kick for a challenge by Casemiro.
28' Although Madrid have been on top this evening, they've not had their shooting boots on in the final third. That may give the visitors confidence to push forward.
26' CHANCE! Bale goes on the surge from right to left before pulling the trigger on a low strike. He curls his effort towards the bottom corner, but once again the ball trickles behind for a goal-kick.
25' WIDE! Kroos lines up an effort from distance and once again connects sweetly with his strike, but it does not have the curl to trouble Olsen between the sticks.
24' The visitors are unable to capitalise from their venture forward as Casemiro heads behind El Shaarawy's delivery for a corner before Madrid clear their lines from the next set-piece.
23' Ramos brings down Nzonzi with a loose challenge and goes into the book.
22' Roma have not been able to stem the tide at all this evening. It has been all Madrid, with the Italian outfit being at the mercy of the hosts' finishing skills.
20' OVER! The pressure from Madrid is unrelenting. Marcelo's low cross is cleared by Kolarov, only as far as Kroos on the edge of the area. The German goes for the strike on the half-volley, but he places his effort over the bar.
19' Modric and Benzema combine to release Bale in the box. The Welshman goes for the cutback towards Isco, but De Rossi sticks out a leg and diverts the ball back to Olsen to gather on the slide.
18' WIDE! Carvajal peels off the back of Under at the back post to latch on to Marcelo's cross. He stoops to make contact with a header, but the Spaniard glances his header wide of the post.
16' Space opens up for Marcelo 25 yards from goal and ambition gets the better of him as it did Under. The Brazilian blasts his strike well over the bar.
15' WIDE! A mistake from Carvajal presents Under an attempt on the counter. The winger goes for an ambitious strike on the volley from distance, but he places his effort wide of the target. It was a decent strike from the youngster.
13' Madrid keep probing on the edge of the Roma box, but Manolas repels the attempt of Benzema to peel off and fire at goal, winning the ball from the Frenchman.
11' Bale collects in space and has the opportunity to run at Fazio on the right flank, but his second touch is heavy and goes straight through to Olsen.
10' The home side keep on the pressure as Kroos lines up a strike from distance. Kroos gets the power, but not the accuracy, firing his effort well over the bar.
9' OVER! Ramos rises highest from the resulting corner from Kroos on the right. He makes contact with his header, but the Madrid skipper can only plant the ball over the bar.
8' SAVE! Olsen keeps the visitors level with a sharp save to deny Isco. Modric releases the run of the Spaniard inside the box with an incisive throughball, but the keeper comes off his line to narrow the angle to make the block. Fazio is there on the rebound to scoop it away from Bale.
7' Bale breaks forward down the right flank and he has Isco in support. The Welshman is loose with his offload and it forces Isco to check back for the ball to continue the attack for the home side.
5' Madrid have started the contest on the front foot and are moving the ball around the pitch with ease at the moment.
3' CHANCE! Bale almost breaks the deadlock, latching on to a ball over the top from Kroos. The Welshman takes it out of the air and strikes a crisp effort towards the bottom corner. The Bernabeu expects the back of the net to ripple, but Bale places his effort inches wide of the post.
2' Isco offloads down the left flank towards the run of Marcelo, but the Brazilian cannot keep himself onside on the wing.
1' We're underway at the Bernabeu.
Roma have made three changes to the side that allowed Chievo to come from two goals down to claim a point in their last outing. Fazio replaces Juan Jesus in the back four, while Zaniolo and De Rossi replace Pellegrini and Cristante in the middle of the park. Zaniolo makes his debut following his move from Inter in the summer.
Lopetegui has made three changes to his side from their 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend. Navas comes into the side between the sticks to dislodge Courtois. Casemiro comes into the midfield, while Isco gets the nod to start in the front three. As a result, Ceballos and Asensio drop out of the starting line-up.
Roma subs: Bryan Cristante, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Diego Perotti, Patrik Schick, Ivan Marcano, Davide Santon, Antonio Mirante.
ROMA (4-3-3): Robin Olsen; Alessandro Florenzi, Kostas Manolas, Federico Fazio, Aleksandar Kolarov; Nicolo Zaniolo, Daniele De Rossi, Steven Nzonzi; Stephan El Shaarawy, Cengiz Under, Edin Dzeko.
Real Madrid subs: Nacho Fernandez, Mariano Diaz, Lucas Vazquez, Marcos Llorente, Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos, Thibaut Courtois.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Keylor Navas; Daniel Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo; Luka Modric, Casemiro, Toni Kroos; Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Isco.
Let's take a look at the two sides this evening, starting with Madrid.
Roma played above expectations to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season. The Italian outfit took the scalp of Barcelona in the quarter-final stage, producing a brilliant performance at the Olympic Stadium to advance to the last four. Eusebio Di Francesco's men almost produced similar heroics against Liverpool, but were denied a place in the final. The club will be hard pressed to match their efforts of last term, although they remain a talented side.
Real Madrid begin their campaign to win the competition for a fourth time in a row. The club have dominated European football for the past three years, adding their 13th crown to their collection by defeating Liverpool in Kiev in May. Julen Lopetegui has the challenge of continuing Zinedine Zidane's legacy at the Bernabeu, starting at the Bernabeu this evening.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Roma at the Bernabeu.
