Minute   Description
That concludes our coverage of a memorable match for Saints supporters. Thanks for joining us and we hope to have your company again soon. Until then, goodbye!
That was a real test of character for Southampton and they certainly passed it, the victory moving them out of the bottom three and up to 16th ahead of the FA Cup third-round replay against Derby County in midweek. Eighth-placed Leicester, meanwhile, fail to find redemption for the disappointing defeat at Newport. Their next assignment is a trip to Wolves in seven days' time.
90'+3 Young striker Gallagher replaces the impressive Redmond.
Schmeichel is forward for a corner which Ndidi meets, but the midfielder's header is the wrong side of the near post.
90'+1 We're into four minutes of added time at King Power Stadium. Southampton, down to 10 since late in the first half, are almost there!
90' Maguire is now a permanent fixture in attack and Southampton's box has become a mass of bodies. Leicester just can't find any way through.
88' Stephens, who has seemingly been everywhere, first diverts a Barnes finish and then rises high to head clear the resulting clear. This is brave defending from the 10-man relegation candidates.
86' Puel's side have registered 20 shots in all thus far. Just seven have been on target and we've ticked into the final five minutes of regulation time.
84' A long, probing attack from Leicester comes to nothing as Maddison smashes a shot high over the bar. Southampton's three-man defence and the midfielders in front have been immense.
81' Leicester, with a man advantage, have commanded over 80 per cent of possession since half-time, yet they continue to labour in search of an equaliser.
78' Maddison receives Ward-Prowse's clearing header and curls an effort around the right post. The Foxes' frustration is growing!
76' Puel uses his last remaining substitute to replace Choudhury with Ghezzal.
Long's first league goal of the campaign may well prove the winner. He's off now and on comes teenager Slattery.
Leicester continue to unleash shots from outside the box to little effect, Barnes and Maddison the most recent culprits. Hasenhuttl has organised Southampton well and they have 15 minutes remaining to protect their 2-1 lead.
71' Maddison shimmies away from Vestergaard on the right and whips in an excellent delivery which Vardy nods across the face of goal.
69' It's extremely congested through the middle of the pitch at King Power Stadium. Leicester need to make more of the width on offer.
66' Maguire blazes another unlikely attempt way, way over the bar. The centre-back has had the most shots of any Leicester player today!
64' Southampton are camped well inside their own half. They're looking comfortable enough, though, with Maddison's left-footed drive the latest shot to be blocked.
61' Just under half an hour left now for Leicester to really heap pressure on the undermanned visitors!
58' Pereira produced exactly what the hosts needed, surging to the byline and keeping his cool to deliver a telling ball inside.
GOALL!!! It's not a pretty finish but it's a lifeline for Leicester! Pereira does ever so well to take Gray's pass at pace and fire in a low cross that bounces in off Ndidi. Southampton's advantage is trimmed back to 2-1.
57' Armstrong's day is done as Hasenhuttl calls on Cedric as a defensive reinforcement.
Stephens makes a brave block on Vardy and the Saints sweep upfield. The ball is eventually worked to Redmond and he darts into the box, but can't find Long with a fizzed low cross.
54' Stephens is late in closing down Maddison just outside the area and picks up a caution.
53' Maddison is next to have a dip from 25 yards but it's again comfortable for McCarthy to palm clear of danger.
49' An early test for McCarthy, the goalkeeper reacting well to parry after Maguire's ambitious effort took a thick deflection off Barnes.
46' Albrighton was another Leicester player struggling to make an imprint on that first half and Puel introduces Gray in his place.
A big opportunity here for Barnes, who will be keen to make an impression in the next 45 minutes after returning from his loan spell at the Hawthorns. He replaces Mendy.
Back underway at King Power Stadium with Leicester trailing Southampton 2-0.
Leicester are by no means out of this, but they have a lot of improving to do. Puel's men have been exposed on the counter several times and haven't gained much joy going forward. While centre-back Morgan did have a fortuitous effort cleared off the line, Vardy was unable to have any kind of influence on proceedings. The likes of Gray, Barnes and Iheanacho on the bench may get an opportunity sooner rather than later.
What a rollercoaster end to that first half! In the space of two minutes Southampton see Valery trudge off after a second yellow, before Long is somehow allowed to score their second of the match. Mendy was most at fault as he had been for giving away the penalty - won by Long - which allowed Ward-Prowse to break the deadlock.
45'+2 GOALLL!!! Incredible! Moments after being reduced to 10 men, Southampton double their advantage. It's poor again from Mendy as he all too easily allows Long to win a bouncing ball, the striker then cutting into the box and coolly converting past Schmeichel.
45' RED CARD! Valery is off for a second yellow and it's a big blow to Southampton. It's two bookings in just over 10 minutes, the teenager this time pulling back Albrighton and giving the official little choice.
42' Valery fails to make the most of Targett's excellent cross in from the left as he opts to take a touch when a volley looked to be the better option.
40' This has been a better five minutes from Leicester, who have begun to get bodies into the opposition box. The challenge for Southampton is to ride it out and retain their lead through to the interval.
37' Maguire threatens again in the air, but his firm header from a corner is straight at McCarthy!
36' Brilliant from Bednarek! The defender gets back on the line to hack away Morgan's effort after a free-kick broke kindly for the Foxes skipper.
35' Chilwell also goes into the book for his angry retaliation towards Valery.
34' Valery is perhaps fortunate to receive only a yellow card, the French wing-back appearing to have gone over the ball in his tackle on Chilwell.
33' A chance for Maguire goes begging. The defender nods wide from Chilwell's left-sided cross after staying forward.
30' Half an hour gone and the away side continue to lead 1-0 thanks to Ward-Prowse's penalty, won courtesy of Mendy's foul on Long.
28' Chilwell's mistake almost costs Leicester as Stephens rises to meet the corner, only to see Schmeichel parry his header away from harm.
Well that typifies Leicester's start. Chilwell loses concentration and, instead of ushering the ball out for a goal kick, needlessly gives away a corner.
25' Valery attempts to get around the outside of Chilwell and goes down in an apparent attempt to win a penalty, but referee Michael Oliver is having none of it and Maguire has a word to his opponent.
23' Almost 25 minutes have passed and Leicester are still yet to register a shot of any kind. Alarm bells are ringing for Puel.
20' Redmond is proving a handful for the Foxes. He evades a couple of markers on halfway and entices Maddison into tugging his shirt, earning the Leicester playmaker a yellow card.
19' Vestergaard sticks out a boot to nick the ball away from Albrighton just as the winger was ready to charge into the box.
14' It was a real panicked piece of defending from Mendy and his lapse in concentration gives a largely sloppy Leicester some work to do.
11' GOAL!! Ward-Prowse gets enough on his penalty to beat Schmeichel and give Southampton a precious lead at King Power Stadium! An excellent start for the visitors as they lead 1-0.
9' Enterprising play from Southampton! Redmond leads a quick counter-attack, draws Maguire and plays Armstrong into the box, but the recovering Pereira does enough to divert the finish safely past the near post.
7' A nervy moment or two on the ball for McCarthy. No real work for him yet though on his return to the XI.
4' Armstrong is the first player to try his luck, but he loses his footing and drags the shot well wide of the left post.
3' An important challenge from Bednarek as he races across the edge of Southampton's area to snuff out a promising opening for Maddison.
1' We're underway! The visitors get us started in what shapes as an intriguing encounter.
The players are out on the pitch and we're just moments away from kick-off at King Power Stadium!
Southampton subs: Angus Gunn, Cedric Soares, Callum Slattery, Kayne Ramsay, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Sam Gallagher.
Southampton XI: Alex McCarthy; Jack Stephens, Jannik Vestergaard, Jan Bednarek; Yan Valery, Oriol Romeu, James Ward-Prowse, Matt Targett; Nathan Redmond, Stuart Armstrong; Shane Long.
Leicester City subs: Danny Ward, Caglar Soyuncu, Danny Simpson, Rachid Ghezzal, Demarai Gray, Harvey Barnes, Kelechi Iheanacho.
Leicester City XI: Kasper Schmeichel; Ricardo Pereira, Wes Morgan, Harry Maguire, Ben Chilwell; Hamza Choudhury, Nampalys Mendy, Wilfred Ndidi; Marc Albrighton, Jamie Vardy, James Maddison.
The pressure has been piled back on relegation-threatened Southampton following a run of one point in three top-flight fixtures and several absentees in attack won't help their chances of extracting a result from King Power Stadium. Leicester, meanwhile, will be expected to respond after suffering a humiliating 2-1 loss to fourth-tier Newport County in the third round of the FA Cup last week.
