Commentary

Minute   Description
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Tottenham get back to winning ways in the Premier League, ending a run of three-straight defeats in all competitions. Harry Kane ended his goal drought of three matches, scoring from the penalty spot in the first half. Brighton spurned chances to get back into the game in the second period, with Anthony Knockaert firing a tame effort at Paulo Gazzaniga. Erik Lamela came off the bench to secure the three points, which were earned despite a late strike from Knockaert. The result moves Tottenham above Manchester United into fifth place, while Brighton sit in 13th after six matches.
90'+5 FULL-TIME: BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 1-2 TOTTENHAM
90'+4 SAVE! Knockaert is left alone on the right flank once again. He goes for goal from the edge of the box and his effort is deflected towards the net. Fortunately for Spurs, the deflection takes the pace off the ball and Gazzaniga makes a comfortable save.
90'+3 Duffy punts a long ball upfield and Knockaert collects on the right flank and scores.
GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! KNOCKAERT GETS A GOAL BACK!!! 2-1!!! Brighton couldn't, could they? Tottenham are exposed on the counter as Duffy sends a punt upfield. For some reason Knockaert is all alone on the right flank. He raids into the box before firing at goal on his left foot, planting his effort past Gazzaniga into the corner. Game on.
SAVE! Kane breaks into the box down the right inside channel, but he cannot score his second as Ryan makes a good low stop to deny the forward.
90'+2 Brighton press for a consolation goal, but Montoya's low drive from outside of the box is safely gathered by Gazzaniga.
90' There will be four minutes of added time.
SAVE! Kane bursts into the box down the left inside channel and he wraps his left foot around a powerful strike. Ryan is once again equal to the effort before Dunk clears behind for a corner.
89' Alli sends a dangerous low ball to the back post that Ryan chooses to let go. Kane just cannot reach the ball at the back stick, watching it trickle out for a goal-kick.
87' SAVE! Kane collects in the left inside channel and he carves out half a yard of space to fire at goal, but Ryan gets his body behind the strike to make the save before gathering at the second attempt.
85' It has been a composed performance from Tottenham, although at times they have ridden their luck at the back. Knockaert could well have equalised and his miss may have been a turning point.
83' Lamela goes for goal from distance, but it's a routine save for Ryan between the sticks. Tottenham are still pushing forward, but it appears the Seagulls will not be able to mount a comeback for the third game on the bounce.
81' Jahanbakhsh has a probe down the right flank and tries to fire a low ball into the box, but Alderweireld sends it into touch. Brighton have to up the ante.
79' Locadia comes on to the field as Brighton chase the game, replacing Bissouma.
78' Alli replaces Lucas for Spurs, making his first appearance in two matches after suffering a hamstring injury.
76' Rose has been impressive going forward and he notches an assist after making a good run, supplying Lamela with a low cross.
GOALLLLLLLLll!!!! LAMELA FINDS THE NET!!! SPURS 2-0!!! Tottenham score the crucial second goal to take the game away from the home side. Spurs move the ball well down the left as Lucas feeds Rose. The full-back sends a pinpoint cross into the middle for Lamela. The Argentine takes the strike on first time, placing his effort beyond the reach of Ryan into the bottom corner. A fine finish.
74' Rose is brought down by a poor challenge from Bissouma, which results in the Brighton man heading into the book.
73' A curious change for the home side as Jahanbakhsh replaces March, who had been playing well on the left, although he did have issues with his final ball.
OVER! Knockaert swings yet another corner into the box and Dunk beats the attention of Dier in the middle to head at goal, but he can only guide his effort over the bar.
71' Eriksen almost works the ball into Kane in the box, but his offload just has too much pace for the forward to reach on the stretch.
70' Brighton have come to life in the second half and are putting the visitors under real pressure. Trippier is struggling on the flank for Pochettino's men.
68' Lamela replaces Son for the visitors.
67' CHANCE! Knockaert has to score! Kayal puts Trippier under pressure and he wins the ball in the final third. He offloads to Knockaert in the left inside channel, who uses a brilliant piece of skill to beat Alderweireld. However, the Frenchman can only fire a tame effort straight at Gazzaniga, wasting the opportunity.
65' March continues to find space down the left as Trippier remains vulnerable after his booking. He tries to pick out Murray in the middle, but Alderweireld makes the block to stop the cross.
64' DISALLOWED GOAL! Dunk rises highest in the box to convert a cross from Knockaert after his initial corner was cleared, but the assistant referee's flag is raised for offside against the defender as he headed home.
CLOSE! Tottenham clear the corner, but only as far as March. He goes for the drive that clips the calf of Son on its way to goal. It loops towards the top corner and sails inches over the crossbar.
63' March finds space down the left flank, but lacks support in the middle. Knockaert and Murray are both on their heels, but the winger manages to win a corner for his team.
61' Kayal goes into the book for catching Rose late.
Knockaert almost breaks behind Rose down the right flank, but the full-back makes the tackle just in time to stop him in his tracks after the Frenchman took a poor first touch.
59' Duffy appears to be ok after receiving treatment on the pitch. Losing him would be a huge blow for the home side.
57' Rose weaves his way into the Brighton box and gets the better of Montoya. Duffy makes the intervention to stop the full-back's progress, but has hurt himself in the process.
55' OVER! Eriksen blasts over from the resulting corner as he latches on to Lucas' deflected cross. Rose was screaming for the ball on the edge of the box, but the Dane ignored his team-mate and hammered his effort over the bar.
54' Kane pulls away from Dunk down the right flank and he drives into the box. The forward looks to put the ball across the face of goal, but Duffy comes across to divert it behind for a corner.
53' CLOSE! Lucas breaks for Tottenham through the middle of the Brighton midfield. He offloads to Eriksen on the left flank, who cuts back on his right foot to shoot. His effort bends dangerously towards the top corner, only to drift inches wide of the post.
51' Knockaert sends another cross into the box, but on this occasion Gazzaniga is able to make a comfortable claim.
50' Knockaert whips the ball in with pace towards Murray in the middle. Alderweireld is well placed to challenge the striker in the air, although he concedes a corner in the process.
49' Trippier goes into the book for his foul on March.
March raids down the left flank and he draws the foul from Trippier after beating the full-back with a surge.
47' Kayal knocks a ball down the flank for Knockaert to chase. The Frenchman cuts back to create room for a cross. March attempts to latch on to the delivery at the back post, but he just cannot reach it on the stretch.
46' We're back underway at the Amex Stadium.
Brighton's gameplan was obvious from the off, sitting back to absorb pressure, while look to their wingers to provide a threat on the counter. It worked well for 40 minutes, but Chris Hughton will have to change his team's approach in the second half to get a positive result out of the contest.
Harry Kane's penalty separates the two sides at the break as Tottenham lead Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. The opening 40 minutes was a tepid affair, with Spurs struggling to break down the home side in their defensive shape. However, a run from Kane earned his side a free-kick and from the set-piece Glenn Murray handled in the wall from Kieran Trippier's shot. Kane converted from the spot to end his three-game drought in front of goal, handing Tottenham a slender advantage after the first period.
45'+2 HALF-TIME: BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 0-1 TOTTENHAM
45' There will be two minutes of added time.
43' Montoya looks for a late run inside the box for the Seagulls, but his delivery bounces in space and straight through to Gazzaniga.
42' GOALLLLLLLL!!!! KANE CONVERTS!! The England captain ends his goal drought at three games for Spurs. He makes no mistake converting from the spot, powering his effort into the bottom corner, sending Ryan the wrong way. Relief for Spurs and Pochettino on the bench.
40' PENALTY TO SPURS! Trippier's strike from the free-kick hits a loose arm in the wall. Murray is the guilty party and the referee points to the spot.
38' Better from Kane as he finds penetration through the line with a driving run. He gets tripped by Bong on the edge of the box and it hands Spurs a free-kick in a dangerous position.
37' Spurs are too passive with the ball in possession. Conditions at the Amex Stadium will allow the ball to be moved at speed, but the visitors are struggling to work into the final third.
35' Dier tries to move the ball with speed and almost opens up the home side's backline, but before Kane can latch on to the loose ball, the opportunity is closed up by Duffy.
33' The tempo is not quick enough from Spurs to exploit the space in the Brighton half . They're seeing plenty of the ball, but the visitors are only moving it sidewards rather than with penetration.
31' Brighton's deep defensive line is testing the patience of the visitors' possession game. So far the home side are edging the battle, although Hughton will want to see them become more effective on the counter.
29' WIDE! Spurs move the ball with speed as Eriksen and Kane combine to release Son into the left inside channel. He tries to cut back on to his right foot to shoot, but the pressure forces the attempt early and he can only fire wide of the target.
27' Tottenham are struggling to break down the home side, who are looking well organised at the back. Kane has to become more active in the final third.
25' Knockaert does well at the back for the hosts, tracking the run of Lucas all the way down the flank. He makes the challenge to stop his progress in the box and wins a free-kick in the process.
24' Eriksen pulls back Montoya down the right flank, easing the pressure on the Seagulls' backline.
23' Rose probes down the left and he whips a cross into the box with pace. Kane gets ahead of Dunk and tries to glance a header towards goal, but he fails to make clean contact.
21' Stephens makes way for Kayal due to injury.
19' A concern for Brighton as Stephens goes down clutching the back of his thigh. It could be a hamstring problem for the midfielder.
18' BLOCK! Brighton have to be alert at the back once again as Spurs play their way down the left. Rose's delivery travels towards Son's late run in the middle. The winger sends an effort towards goal, but Bong slides in to divert it over the bar.
17' Eriksen collects the ball in space and opts against the offload to Lucas. He goes for goal on his left foot, only to be denied by a good block from Duffy.
16' Knockaert whips his cross into the box with pace from the right flank, but he overhits the ball straight out for a goal-kick.
15' Rose brings down Knockaert on the right flank and it hands the Seagulls a free-kick in a threatening position.
14' Dunk pulls off the back of Rose from a Brighton free-kick and he has space and time in the box, only to scuff his attempted volley at goal.
12' WIDE! Son lines up an effort from distance after collecting Eriksen's offload. He gets power behind his effort, although the ball travels harmlessly wide of the post.
10' SAVE & MISS! Trippier bends his delivery towards the near post and Alderweireld gets ahead of Bong. He directs his effort towards the net and it deflects off Bong on its way to goal. However, Ryan makes a brilliant reaction stop, while Vertonghen on the rebound cannot connect with a header to turn the ball into an empty net.
9' Tottenham make progress into the final third before Trippier delivers a cross towards the box, although March is there to deflect it behind for a corner.
7' Spurs are struggling to move the ball forward through the Brighton five-man midfield, and have been forced back towards Gazzaniga on more than one occasion.
5' It has been a tepid start to the game from both teams. A lot of the action has been in the middle of the park.
3' Spurs are seeing a lot of the ball in the early stages of the game, with Brighton content to sit back and absorb the pressure.
1' Spurs win an early corner down the right, but are unable to threaten the home side with the delivery as Eriksen fails to pick out a team-mate.
We're underway at the Amex Stadium.
Gazzaniga is pressed into starting duty, leaving Spurs down to their third-choice keeper. Hugo Lloris is out for an extended period, while Michel Vorm has joined him on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury in training. Whiteman is the back-up option on the bench. The change is one of four that Spurs have made from their defeat to Inter. Trippier, Rose and Alderweireld are recalled for the clash this evening.
Brighton are still without Pascal Gross, so they are unchanged from their draw against Southampton. Murray continues to lead the line after his late heroics from the penalty spot at St Mary's Stadium. Knockaert and March will be aiming to provide the ammunition for the forward from the wide areas.
Tottenham subs: Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks, Erik Lamela, Victor Wanyama, Dele Alli, Serge Aurier, Alfie Whiteman.
TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1) Paulo Gazzaniga; Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose; Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele; Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min; Harry Kane.
Brighton subs: Beram Kayal, Jurgen Locadia, Florin Andone, Leon Balogun, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, David Button, Bernardo.
BRIGHTON (4-1-4-1): Mat Ryan; Martin Montoya, Shane Duffy, Lewis Dunk, Gaetan Bong; Dale Stephens; Anthony Knockaert, Davy Propper, Yves Bissouma; Solly March; Glenn Murray.
Let's take a look at the two teams at the Amex Stadium, starting with the home side.
Tottenham have lost their last three matches on the bounce in all competitions. Spurs have lost their way since allowing Watford to come from behind to defeat them at Vicarage Road. Liverpool and Inter Milan compounded their woes, with the defeat in the Champions League being a particular sore one as the Italian outfit scored twice in the last five minutes to snatch the three points at the San Siro. Mauricio Pochettino's men cannot afford to succumb to another defeat in the Premier League.
Brighton have produced two two-goal comebacks in their last two matches to salvage points against Fulham and Southampton. Chris Hughton's men have enjoyed a steady start to the term aided by their fightbacks. They produced an outstanding performance at the Amex Stadium to defeat Manchester United in August and will be aiming to replicate that display today.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham at the Amex Stadium.
