Commentary

Minute   Description
Madrid go through to the quarter-finals, but this is a famous night for Numancia - and particularly for their striker, Guillermo. He started on the bench but came on as a first-half substitute for the injured Marin, levelling on the night shortly after his introduction with a close-range finish. And while Vazquez's second - sealing his first Madrid brace in 109 appearances for the club - ensured Zidane's men cruised into the last eight, they could not win on the night. Guillermo flicked in a glorious header from Garcia's left-wing cross which meant Madrid failed to beat lower-tier opposition at home for the second round in a row, Fuenlabrada having also claimed a 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu.
90'+3 It's all over! The match finishes 2-2 on the night and 5-2 to Real Madrid on aggregate.
90'+2 Numancia will play the final seconds with 10 men as Calvo is handed a second yellow card for a foul on Isco.
90' There will be two minutes added on at the end of this match.
89' STAT: Real Madrid have scored 29 goals in their last nine Copa del Rey matches, averaging over three per game.
87' Casemiro into the book here as well.
86' Into the final few minutes and both sides are showing plenty of bite here. The final score here means little in the grand scheme of things, so they might as well go for it. Neither wants to settle for a draw here.
84' The intensity has been ramped up here inside the final 10 minutes. Calvo picks up a yellow card for a late challenge, encompassing Numancia's desire to win the ball back and go nab themselves a winner.
82' Saul provides the assist.
NUMANCIA ON LEVEL TERMS ONCE AGAIN! Sensational from Guillermo, the second of the night for the substitute, as he jumps in front of a static Nacho to guide a brilliant header off the far post and in, on the end of Saul's inch-perfect cross!
80' SOMEHOW IT STAYS OUT! Dangerous attacking play from Numancia as a low cross into the centre creates havoc for the Real Madrid defence, but somehow the ball is bundled inches wide of the far post amidst a crowd of bodies attacking that delivery!
78' STAT: Real Madrid have failed to win each of their last two Copa del Rey matches at home, conceding four goals while scoring three (D1, L1).
77' The final change of the night sees Casemiro enter the fray for Real Madrid, replacing Mayoral.
74' GREAT CHANCE! Tidy interplay from the visitors in attack as Markel, only just on, links up well with Guillermo in the penalty area, but an improvised back-heel from the latter is rolled tamely into Casilla's hands.
72' Markel Etxeberria replaces Medina with the final change for the visitors.
70' Into the final 20 minutes now and a push should be expected from Numancia to try and get back on level terms. Their cup run will end tonight regardless, but they would love a result to take home with them, and to show appreciation to the supporters who made the trip.
68' STAT: Real Madrid have won each of their last three home games against Numancia, all by a one-goal margin (4-3 in 2008, 1-0 in 2004 and 1-0 in 2001).
66' A second change from Numancia sees Pere Milla replace Mateau, the architect of their goal.
65' STRAIGHT AT MUNIR! Lovely build-up play from the hosts as the ball is eventually worked across the penalty area to Isco, who cuts in on his right and tries his luck, but sends an effort straight into the waiting arms of the keeper.
63' Real Madrid's second change sees Isco replace Asensio.
61' Not that there was much doubt before that goal, but it's a 5-1 lead for Real Madrid on aggregate as they are surely through now to the quarter-final.
59' Unselfish play there from Mayoral, who provides the assist.
REAL MADRID BACK IN FRONT! An expertly worked goal from the hosts who restore their lead! Asensio bursts into space down the left and floats in a terrific cross for Mayoral at the far post. The striker hangs in the air and heads it back across into the path of Lucas Vazquez, who smashes an acrobatic finish into the ceiling of the goal!
58' Good response from the visitors as they threaten on the break, winning a throw deep in the Real Madrid half and sending bodies up in support. That has the already loud travelling fans jumping up and down in the away end.
56' CLOSE! A pull-back from the left flank is deflected into the path of Lucas, who does well to control before turning and firing at goal, but his strike lifts inches over!
54' Another incisive move and inviting delivery across the face of goal gives the Numancia defence something to worry about, but an important touch sends it behind for a corner. The ensuing delivery is kept alive by Real Madrid as the pressure stays on.
52' STAT: Numancia have won just two of their last 24 Copa del Rey matches, excluding extra-time and penalties (D10, L12).
50' Real Madrid have a lot more life to them here, likely eager to restore their lead after being begged back just minutes before the interval. They're sending waves of bodies forward and are much more positive in their build-up play.
48' Energetic start to the second half from both sides, each posing a decent threat at goal. Asensio nearly gets on the end of a cross at the near post to head home, before Larrea lifts a strike just over at the other end.
46' Here we go again!
Achraf Hakimi replaces Carvajal at the interval.
Lucas Vazquez's opener saw Real Madrid cash in on their early dominance, but the hosts took their foot off the pedal and were punished by substitute Guillermo Fernandez's equaliser at the stroke of half-time. Everything still to play for in this match, though the tie is essentially decided with Real Madrid 4-1 up on aggregate.
45'+1 HALF-TIME: REAL MADRID 1-1 NUMANCIA.
45' Mateu provides the assist.
PARITY RESTORED AT THE BERNABEU! A moment for Numancia to cherish! Mateu makes a lovely run down the left and is played through into space, before unselfishly sending a sublime delivery across the face of goal for Guillermo, on the pitch for less than five minutes, who produces a cool first-time finish!
43' STAT: Real Madrid have scored at least a goal in 25 successive Copa del Rey matches at the Santiago Bernabeu (including today), dating back to a 1-0 defeat to Mallorca in January 2008.
41' Higinio is replaced by Guillermo Fernandez.
40' An injury concern here for Numancia as Higinio goes down and requires attention. He's looked at for a minute before popping to his feet and slowly making his way to the sideline, with a bit of help. His night might be over prematurely here.
38' A long ball over the top is brought down superbly by Higinio, who only has one defender to beat, but Vallejo does very well to deny the striker passage through into the penalty area. That was still one of Numancia's brighter attacking moments in this first half.
36' Better here from Real Madrid as they begin to assert themselves again, working the ball around nicely in the attacking half. Some incisive passing sees them get forward down the left, and then again down the right, but both times Numancia are able to assuredly deal with the threat as the ball enters the penalty area.
34' Continuing in the ascendency here are the visitors, all stemming from their sudden surge in defence. They have really tightened things up, getting after the ball with a bit more desire, and it's led to an increase in their time in possession over the last five minutes.
32' Numancia showing a bit of fight here as they force the ball forward and look to cause a stir in attack. They're outnumbered when they get into the final third, however, still reluctant to commit too many bodies forward.
30' STAT: Real Madrid have won each of their last six matches against Numancia, dating back to a 3-1 defeat in September 2000.
28' The tempo is really sputtering out as we reach the half-hour mark. Real Madrid are content keeping the ball in midfield, forcing Numancia to up their press, hoping to lure them out of position, but the visitors are holding firm.
26' Numancia are focusing their efforts on keeping out the hosts, understandably so, but their attacking influence has been incredibly limited as a result. They don't want to be on the losing end of another blowout, surely, but at what point do they throw caution to the wind and get bodies forward?
24' Patient building here from Real Madrid as they dominate possession, in no rush to force the issue. They have this tie in the bag and have no need to pick up the tempo.
22' The hosts are moving the ball around excellently in attack. Their passing and movement off the ball has Numancia scrambling to keep them out, but the end product has been lacking from Real's perspective. They need to be a bit better at those vital moments.
20' STAT: Real Madrid have won just two of their last six matches in the Copa del Rey (D3, L1).
18' Nasty challenge! Vazquez shows great pace to get beyond a defender, before being tripped up by a late and cynical slide from Sierra, which sees him into the book.
16' Real Madrid have a great width to them in attack, with Carvajal and Theo providing plenty of support for Vazquez and Asensio. Numancia are struggling to cope with the abundance of white shirts out wide, and it's costing them dearly thus far.
14' Lovely, direct running from Asensio who takes on defenders, eventually winning a free-kick just to the right of the penalty area. It's him who takes the subsequent set-piece as well, bending a cross behind the defence, but Munir is able to collect.
12' Decent response here from Numancia as they hit back and win a corner, but Kiko Casilla is able to deal with it. That was a tough goal for Numancia to concede after a strong start, as they're left playing for pride now, with the tie as a whole essentially decided.
10' Carvajal provides the assist.
THERE'S THE OPENER! Far too easy for Real Madrid, who open up a 4-0 lead on aggregate to put this tie to bed. Carvajal found space on the right and picked out a tidy cross for Vazquez, who beats the offside trap and is left unmarked at the far post to bounce a header beyond Munir.
9' The hosts are enjoying their first good spell in attack now, but they're coming up against a wall of red shirts in defence. Ceballos and Asensio link up on the right, with the latter cutting in onto his left and trying for goal, narrowly missing at the near post as his effort smacks into the side-netting.
7' STAT: Real Madrid have not lost back-to-back matches at the Santiago Bernabeu since April 2011. They were beaten 3-0 by Barcelona in their last home match.
5' Numancia enjoying plenty of possession in the early going here, with Real Madrid yet to really get going. The visitors have come out of the gate with some good energy, keen to avenge their defeat from a week ago.
3' There's a sparse crowd here in Madrid, with a ton of empty seats scattered throughout the stadium. It looks to be at less than 50 per cent capacity right now, but perhaps more supporters will funnel in as the match wears on.
1' AND THEY'RE OFF! Real Madrid in white, attacking left to right, with Numancia in red.
Arrasate makes four changes to his side from the 3-0 defeat suffered in the first leg. Unai Elgezabal, Saul, Nacho and Marc Mateu replace Carlos Gutierrez, Ripa, Pere Milla and the suspended Pape Diamanka.
Zidane makes just one change to his side from the first leg, with Mateo Kovacic replacing Gareth Bale. The change sees Real Madrid switch into more of a 4-3-3 formation, with three direct midfielders, from the 4-2-3-1 they adopted in the first leg.
SUBS: Perez, Escassi, Milla, A. Fernandez, Exteberria, Gutierrez, G. Fernandez.
NUMANCIA (4-2-3-1): Munir; Medina, Calvo, Elgezabal, Saul; Larrea, Sierra; Nacho, Nieto, Mateu; Higinio.
SUBS: Navas, Kroos, Casemiro, Achraf, Isco, Tejero, Rodriguez.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Casilla; Carvajal, Vallejo, Nacho, Hernandez; Ceballos, Llorente, Kovacic; Vazquez, Asensio, Mayoral.
CONFIRMED TEAM NEWS:
It has been a frustrating season so far for Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid, the coach working hard to find an answer to their struggles, as they trail LaLiga leaders Barcelona by 16 points nearing the halfway mark of the season.
A first-half penalty looked to be the difference in the match, a scoreline that would have left Numancia with a fighting chance to progress still, but Isco and Mayoral’s goals in the 89th and 91st minute have Los Blancos all but through to the quarter-final.
Gareth Bale, Isco and Borja Mayoral were all on the scoresheet as Real Madrid wound up winning big in the first leg at the Nuevo Estado Los Pajaritos, taking a 3-0 lead back with them to Madrid.
Hello and welcome to the Santiago Bernabeu for live Copa del Rey coverage as Real Madrid host Numancia in the second leg of their last-16 tie!
