87' Pablo Fornals (G)

Minute   Description
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Villarreal pull off a fantastic result as Pablo Fornals' late strike hands them the three points against Real Madrid. It's another poor outing from Los Blancos as their defeat surely ends any of hope of successfully defending their LaLiga crown. Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo were guilty of missing chances in the first half, while they were denied two decent claims for a penalties by the referee. However, their second-half performances was dreadful, failing to force the issue. They were hit on the counter by a fine goal by the visitors, who deserve the victory for their resilience and clinical edge. The pressure on Zinedine Zidane will only grow after this display.
90'+3 Kroos goes down with ease looking for a free-kick and it's the last action of the game as the referee ends the contest.
Modric tries to lift a cross into the box, but he sends his delivery straight down the throat of Asenjo.
90'+2 Bonera does well at the back to clear his lines under pressure from Ronaldo as the Portuguese attempted to latch on to a knockdown in the box.

A superb effort from Fornals.
85' WIDE! Marcelo catches the Villarreal defence asleep at a corner and he fires the ball low into the box. Asensio latches on to the cross and fires at goal, but Trigueros does enough to put him off and the strike deflects off Ronaldo and out for a goal-kick.
83' Castillejo makes way for Rukavina for the visitors.
A long ball causes confusion between Navas and Nacho. It almost allows Unal to snatch the ball before Nacho clears into touch. That could have been disastrous for the home side.
81' OVER Vazquez collects Modric's pass on the right before he lays the ball back to the midfielder. He goes for the strike with power, only to blast his effort well over the bar. Madrid are losing their composure here.
80' Kroos twists and turns in the final third and scoops the ball into the box, although his cross is cleared with ease by the visitors.
79' Asensio finds space down the left and he lifts a deep cross to the back post, but it's too high for his team-mates to threaten Asenjo with.
76' Villarreal have weathered the Madrid storm that was threatening their goal for a period. The visitors could have greater ambitions than a point this afternoon.
Bacca makes way for Unal.
73' Vazquez places the ball through into the path of Ronaldo, but before the Portuguese can shoot he gets crowded out in the box.

49' Isco raids down the right and fires a low ball across the face of goal, but there's no white shirt there to tap home in the six-yard area.
48' CHANCE! Cherysev seizes possession and breaks through on goal for the visitors. The former Madrid player has time to pick his spot, but he loses his composure and fires wide of the post. A huge opportunity is spurned by Villarreal.
47' WIDE! Fornals surges forward into the final third and he goes for the strike from 25 yards, firing wide of the post under pressure from Carvajal.
46' Cheryshev replaces Raba for the visitors.
We're back underway at the Bernabeu.
It's an all too familiar feeling of frustration for Real Madrid after 45 minutes of action against Villarreal. The home side have been knocking on the door and have come close to breaking the deadlock through Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo, but it remains goalless at the break. Zinedine Zidane's men could well have had two penalties for a shove on Ronaldo and a handball against Alvaro Gonzalez, but the referee has turned away both appeals. They will have to up the ante in the second half to get the crucial opening goal.
45' The referee ends the first half.
SAVE! ASENJO MAKES A BRILLIANT SAVE! Isco fires the ball to the back post and Ronaldo latches on to the cross to fire at goal. However, he is denied by an astounding reaction stop from the Villarreal keeper. Ronaldo wants a penalty for a nudge in the back from Gaspar, but the referee dismisses his appeal - that looked a spot-kick on the replay.
44' Bacca has a couple of kicks to the back of Casemiro's legs and the Brazilian goes down. It results in a booking for the Colombian.
43' WIDE! Isco surges through the middle before feeding Bale. The forward turns back on to his right foot to fire at goal, only to send his effort wide of the post. Had that been on his left foot it could well have been the opener.
42' Madrid break with speed down the right flank, but Carvajal hangs the ball to the back post and it leaves Bale with a lot of work to keep the attack alive. The Welshman's tame header is cleared with ease by the visitors.
39' The home side are playing with confidence in the final third. Kroos tries an effort from distance, only to hammer his strike well wide of the target.
38' Madrid probe down the right and Isco fires a low ball towards the near post. Bale gets across his man and goes for the backheeled effort, but he places his effort wide of the post.
37' SAVE! Trigueros floats the ball to the back post and Gonzalez peels off unmarked to head at goal. However, he guides his effort straight into the hands of Navas.
36' Villarreal break forward through the middle and Casemiro is forced into a challenge to stop Fornals' progress.
35' PENALTY SHOUT! Kroos finds space down the left and he sends a cross to the near post. Bale rises to head with Bonera, and although he fails to make clean contact, the Welshman wants a penalty for handball against Gonzalez. However, the official denies the home side's appeal for a spot-kick.
32' Ronaldo is alive in the box as he rises to head Isco's cross at goal, but he fails to make clean contact with his effort.
31' CLOSE! Ronaldo collects down the right and surges into the final third. He goes for the blast towards the top corner, but he sends his effort narrowly wide of the post, firing the ball into the side-netting.
30' WIDE! RONALDO SHOULD PUT MADRID AHEAD! Modric releases Ronaldo behind the Villarreal defence and the Portuguese only has Asenjo to beat. He lifts his effort over the keeper, but the ball trickles wide of the post.
28' CHANCE! Fornals threads the ball through to Bacca in the box. The striker tries to take the pass in stride, but he cannot get the ball out of his feet. Bacca does strike at goal with his left foot, but Nacho gets back to make the block.
26' Fornals opens space down the left for the visitors and Gomez collects to look for a first-time pass. However, his offload to Castillejo catches the midfielder in an offside position.
24' Madrid keep the pressure on from the resulting corner and Modric creates room for a strike from the edge of the box. However, his low effort is blocked by a wall of yellow shirts.
23' OFF THE BAR! Ronaldo smashes the ball over the wall and towards the net. His effort swerves in the air, but Asenjo adjusts and makes a fine save to turn it on to the bar and over.
22' Modric gets brought down by Rodri 25 yards from goal and the referee awards a free-kick. Ronaldo stands over the ball.
21' Kroos wins the ball in the middle of the park and feeds Ronaldo. The Portuguese tries to find Bale at the back post, but his pass is cut out by Gonzalez.
20' Isco attempts to latch onto Carvajal's forward pass, but he goes down on the edge of the box. He looks for the free-kick from the referee, who tells him to get to his feet.

16' Kroos swings the ball into the box, but Ronaldo slips as he tries to head at goal and it allows the visitors to clear the danger.
15' Trigueros brings down Isco on the left flank and Madrid have a free-kick in a good position.
14' DISALLOWED GOAL! Bale heads home from close range as he latches onto Ronaldo's header across goal, but the offside flag denies Madrid the opener.
13' Isco does well down the left as he combines with Marcelo. The Spaniard lifts the ball into the box and Gonzalez has to head behind in the six-yard box.
12' Castillejo wins the ball in the middle of the park and Bacca makes a good run forward. The midfielder tries to release his team-mate, but the pass is cut out by Varane. The Frenchman had to make that intervention.
11' Villarreal are not back down from the challenge this afternoon. They're moving the ball well across the pitch.
9' Madrid have their first press of the game and Marcelo wins a corner. The visitors clear the danger, but only as far as Modric, who tees up Isco for a strike. The Spaniard fires at goal, only to see his shot blocked. Nacho then seizes possession, but sees his low drive diverted wide.
6' Villarreal move the ball down the left and Trigueros goes for the strike, but his effort is blocked on the edge of the box. The visitors keep the attack alive as Costa sends a cross into the area, only for the ball to deflect into the hands of Navas.
4' Raba threads the ball through to Bacca in the final third and he tries to get the better of Varane in the box, but his strike is blocked.
2' Carvajal seizes on a mistake from Costa and plays the ball into the feet of Bale, but his first touch is poor and it goes through to Asenjo.
1' We're underway at the Bernabeu.
STAT ATTACK! Villarreal have not won any of their 17 league visits to Santiago Bernabeu (D5 L12), but they have avoided defeat in two of the last three (L1).
STAT ATTACK! Real Madrid have only won two of their last five games against Villarreal in La Liga (D2 L1), both wins coming under Zinédine Zidane (3-0 at Bernabeu in April 2016 and 3-2 at La Ceramica in February 2017).
Villarreal have made two changes to their side from the team that drew against Deportivo La Coruna last time out in LaLiga. Trigueros comes into the side to replace Enes Unal, while Daniele Bonera replaces the suspended Victor Ruiz. Pablo Fornals joins Dani Raba and Carlos Bacca to form a three-man attack. The visitors are still without Roberto Soriano, Bruno and Nicola Sansone
Zidane makes one change from the side that drew Celta Vigo after making several alterations to his team for their draw during the week against Numancia in the Copa del Rey. Daniel Carvajal returns from suspension and replaces Achraf Hakimi at right-back, while Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Isco continue as the three-man frontline.
Villarreal subs: Marin, Cherysev, Unal, Rukavina, Barbosa, Guerra, Torres.
VILLARREAL (4-3-3): Asenjo; Gaspar, Gonzalez, Bonera, Costa; Castillejo, Rodri, Trigueros; Raba, Fornals, Bacca.
Real Madrid subs: Vallejo, Kiko Casilla, Hernandez, Vazquez, Asensio, Mayoral, Kovacic.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Navas; Carvajal, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo; Kroos, Casemiro, Modric; Bale, Isco, Ronaldo.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Villarreal sit sixth in the table and are unbeaten in their last three league matches, although they were knocked out of the Copa del Rey during the week by Leganes on away goals. Javi Calleja's men have beaten Celta Vigo and Valencia in their last two away matches, so they will carry a threat against Madrid this afternoon.
Real Madrid are close to desperation stakes in their bid to defend their LaLiga crown. Zinedine Zidane's men are 16 points behind Barcelona at the top of the table, although they do have a game in hand on their Clasico rivals. However, Los Blancos drew 2-2 last time out in LaLiga against Celta Vigo, leaving them unable to bounce back from their hammering in El Clasico in their last home outing. A victory is a must for Madrid this afternoon.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Real Madrid and Villarreal at the Bernabeu.
