Commentary

Minute   Description
Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Bayern continue to be imperious in the Bundesliga as they hammer Borussia Monchengladbach this evening. Josip Drmic had put the visitors ahead early in the contest, only for Sandro Wagner to respond with a brace before the break. Further goals from Thiago Alcantara, David Alaba and Robert Lewandowski poured on the agony for Dieter Hecking's men as the champions romped to victory at the Allianz Arena.
FULL-TIME: BAYERN 5-1 BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH
90' The referee ends the contest.
89' CHANCE! Lewandowski comes to close to adding a sixth as he latches on to a loose ball in the box, but he pokes his effort just past the post.
87' Bernat is booked for a loose challenge on Sommer.
Kimmich lifts a cross to the back post after collecting James' offload, but Elvedi puts the ball behind.
84' Bernat tries his luck after collecting in the left inside channel, but he blasts his effort well over the bar.
82' GOALLLLLLLLLLL!!!! LEWANDOWSKI PUTS HIS NAME ON THE SCORESHEET!! The Pole has not done much in his time on the pitch. However, he's in the right place at the right to collect Kimmich's cross at the back post. He controls on his chest and opens up his body before placing his effort into the bottom corner. Sommer could do better, but it doesn't really matter at this stage.
Zakaria makes way for Strobl.
80' Grifo finds space in the final break and he surges into the left inside channel. However, he opts against the strike on his left foot, allowing Sule to make the challenge.
77' Kramer is booked for clipping the heels of Tolisso.
75' The pace of the game has again dropped due to Bayern's control. The home side will want to see this one with as little drama as possible.
73' Alaba makes way for Rafinha.
72' WIDE! Tolisso lines up a strike at goal from the edge of the box, but he pulls his effort wide of the post.
70' There will be no hat-trick for Wagner as he is withdrawn for Lewandowski.
69' Hummels pulls back Cuisance and goes into the book.
67' Tolisso offloads to Alaba, who does the rest.
GOALLLLLLLL!!!! ALABA FIRES A ROCKET INTO THE NET!!! Bayern have their fourth goal as Alaba plants a right-footed strike into the net. The left-back cuts in on his right foot and is not closed down by Zakaria. He fires at goal and his effort powers into the corner, leaving Sommer with no chance.
66' Cuisance raids forward through the middle of the Bayern defence. However, he tries one too many tricks in the final third and loses out to Rudy, much to the annoyance of Raffael.
65' Cuisance replaces Drmic.
Grifo replaces Hofmann for the visitors.
64' The pace of the game has dropped as Bayern are dominating proceedings and are in no rush around the pitch.
62' Drmic looks for the offload to Hofmann in the final third, but he misplaces his pass under pressure from Thiago.
60' PENALTY SHOUT! Bernat goes down in the box under Elvedi's challenge, but the referee waves away his appeal.
58' Wagner lines up the effort for his hat-trick as he pulls the trigger on a 25-yard strike. However, it hits off the legs of Tolisso and heads wide of the post.
57' BLOCK! Tolisso looks to fire towards goal as James tees up him in the area, but Vestergaard makes the intervention.
55' Bayern win a free-kick down the right flank, but James' delivery into the box is cleared away by the visitors.
53' OFF THE POST!! James latches on to Alaba's cutback from the left and he curls a low effort towards the bottom corner, only to be denied by the post. Bayern should have had their fourth goal.
51' GOALLLLLLLL!!!! THIAGO FINDS THE NET!!! Bayern have their third goal as the Spaniard fires home from close range. Tolisso raids into the right inside channel and cuts the ball back into the box. Wagner hammers an effort towards the net, but is denied by Sommer. Thiago, who made a late run into the box, pounces on the rebound to place his strike into the bottom corner.
49' SAVE! Rudy lines up a strike from distance, but his effort is well saved by Sommer, who gets his body in behind the ball.
48' Kimmich raids down the right and looks for the cross into the box from the byline, but Wendt gets back at him to win the challenge.
46' Muller makes way for James.
We're back underway at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern respond from an early deficit to take a 2-1 lead into the break against Borussia Monchengladbach. The visitors went ahead in the ninth minute when Josip Drmic was allowed to turn and shoot in the box, curling his effort beyond the reach of Sven Ulreich. It took 28 minutes for Bayern to rally, but Sandro Wagner's close-range finish levelled the scores. The forward then put his team ahead with a low header that should have been saved by Yann Sommer. Dieter Hecking will be furious that his side allowed Bayern back into the game without the home side having to apply serious pressure to their goal. He will be demanding a reaction in the second period.
HALF-TIME: BAYERN 2-1 GLADBACH
45' The referee ends the first half.
Alaba goes for placement rather than power and it's a comfortable save for Sommer.
44' Zakaria brings down Kimmich within striking distance of the Gladbach goal. Alaba will line up this effort.
43' It's all one-way traffic at the moment as the home side are in complete control.
41' Muller lifts a cross into the box, which Wagner converts with the aid of Sommer.
GOALLLLLLLL!!!! WAGNER HAS HIS SECOND!!!! Bayern take the lead and it's not one Sommer will want to see again. Muller collects Kimmich's offload and sends a cross into the box. Wagner rises to head towards the bottom corner. Sommer should get down to make the stop, but he lets the ball under his hands and into the net.
Alaba raids down the left and sends a cross into the box, but Kimmich misses his opportunity to fire at goal. However, he keeps the attack alive for Bayern...
39' Bayern are smelling blood now and are pushing forward a second before the break.
37' Muller makes a run into the right channel to latch on to Sule's pass. He cuts the ball back for Wagner to convert.
GOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! WAGNER EQUALISES! Bayern's pressure tells as Wagner slots home from close range. Sule charges forward and slides an offload into the path of Muller in the right inside channel. The forward cuts the ball back for Wagner, who has an empty net to fire home. He almost misses as the ball strikes his heel and finds the corner. Relief for the forward.
35' Wagner keeps Muller's cross alive and he knocks the ball back to Alaba to strike from distance, but his effort is deflected into the hands of Sommer, who does well to prevent the corner.
34' Rudy tries an ambitious pass on the edge of the box as he tries to fizz a low ball towards Bernat in the left inside channel, only to be denied by Kramer's interception.
32' SAVE! Bernat tees up Tolisso for a strike on the edge of the box, but Sommer gets down to push the ball away from danger.
30' Bayern probe on the edge of the box, but Wagner loses possession in a good position. The forward has not been at his best this evening.
29' A loose ball from Zakaria allows the home side to break with Muller. He tries to break into the box, but he overhits the ball and allows Sommer to gather ahead of him.
28' Bernat goes on the charge down the wing and he lifts a cross into the middle. Sommer comes off his line and he makes the claim over Muller.
27' Bayern have found their rhythm and are starting to apply pressure, although the visitors are holding firm through the middle.
25' WIDE! Alaba collects Muller's offload from right to left. The left-back lifts a teasing cross to the back post, which Muller meets with a glancing header, only to put his effort wide of the post.
24' Wagner takes possession 25 yards from goal, only for Kramer to come in with an inch-perfect challenge to dispossess the forward.
21' Muller rises to head the resulting corner from Rudy at goal, although it's an easy claim for Sommer.
Alaba goes on the charge down the left flank, but Zakaria tracks his run all the way and diverts the ball out for a corner.
19' The home side have produced a response to the deficit and are beginning to find a rhythm in the final third.
17' Rudy swings a cross in from the right from a corner and it flies across the six-yard box, but no-one in a red shirt can stick a boot on the ball to steer it towards the net.
16' CLOSE! Muller latches on to Thiago's flicked ball through the Gladbach defence, but the forward can only steer his effort just past the post.
15' Alaba has space and time down the left to whip in a cross, but Sommer comes off his line to claim it with ease.
12' Hofmann releases Hazard down the left with a cross-field pass. The winger cuts inside to shoot on his right foot, only to see his shot blocked by a wall of red shirts.
11' Bayern need jolting into life this evening and the goal from Drmic may produce a response.
9' Hofmann knocks a pass forward into the right inside channel for Drmic to collect and score.
GOALLLLLLLLL!!! DRMIC FIRES GLADBACH AHEAD!! The visitors take a deserved lead as Drmic curls an effort beyond Ulreich. Hofmann released the forward into the right inside channel. He still had work ahead of him, but he managed to turn past the challenge of Sule before curling his strike on his left foot into the bottom corner. A fine finish from the forward.
8' Bayern are sitting deep and are drawing the visitors on to them at the back. It has been a tepid start from Heynckes' men.
5' The pace of the game has been slow to start the contest with the home side quite happy for Hecking's men to pass the ball around at the back.
3' Zakaria forces the ball into the path of Drmic in the box, but the striker is flagged offside as he turns towards goal.
1' We're underway at the Allianz Arena.
STAT! Bayern face Gladbach for the 100th time in the Bundesliga this weekend – they’ve only come up against Hamburg (106) and Bremen (104) more often.
Gladbach have made three changes from their win over Hertha Berlin last time out. Drmic leads the line alongside Raffael, while Hofmann and Hazard come into the side on the flanks.
Bayern have made seven changes from their draw against Sevilla during the week. Sule, Alaba, Rudy, Tolisso, Thiago, Wagner and Bernat come into the fold this evening.
Gladbach subs: Tobias Stripl, Tobias Sippel, Tony Jantschke, Laszlo Benes, Michael Cuisance, Vincenzo Grofi, Florian Mayer.
GLADBACH (4-4-2): Yann Sommer; Nico Elvedi, Matthias Ginter, Jannik Vestergaard, Oscar Wendt; Jonas Hofmann, Christoph Kramer, Denis Zakaria, Thorgan Hazard; Josip Drmic, Raffael.
Bayern subs: Franck Ribery, Javi Martinez, Robert Lewandowski, Arjen Robben, James Rodriguez, Rafinha, Tom Starke.
BAYERN (4-2-3-1): Sven Ulreich; Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Sule, Mats Hummels, David Alaba; Corentin Tolisso, Sebastian Rudy, Thiago Alcantara; Thomas Muller, Sandro Wagner, Juan Bernat.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Gladbach could make a late surge for a Europa League spot, sitting six points behind Eintracht Frankfurt in fifth place. Dieter Hecking's men ended a four-match winless run last week by defeating Hertha Berlin. They were forced to come from behind on home soil, but a brace from Thorgan Hazard delivered the three points. However, they will need to be flawless against the champions this evening.
One interested spectator will be Niko Kovac, who has been confirmed as the next manager of Bayern. The former Croatia captain and Bayern midfielder has impressed in his duties with Eintracht Frankfurt this term, although his side were hammered earlier today by Bayer Leverkusen.
Jupp Heynckes' men enjoyed a successful week, securing the Bundesliga crown with a 4-1 win over Augsburg before sealing their place in the last four of the Champions League, drawing 0-0 with Sevilla. Bayern will be eyeing a famous treble with the DFB-Pokal semi-final clash against Bayer Leverkusen on the horizon. Health and form will be on their mind of the veteran manager heading into the climax of the campaign.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Arena.
