Commentary

Minute   Description
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Hoffenheim drop two points behind Thomas Tuchel's men, but with two matches left in the season they will not have given up hope of securing third place. They were decent this afternoon, but lacked the cutting edge needed, although Andrej Kramaric's late penalty gave them a glimmer of hope towards the end.
Borussia Dortmund secure a huge win in their hopes of reaching the Champions League without having to go through the play-off system. Goals from Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were enough to guide them over the line, despite a penalty miss from the Gabonese.
FULL-TIME: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 2-1 HOFFENHEIM
90'+4 The referee ends the contest.
90'+3 Time is all but up for the visitors. Can they force one late effort?
90'+2 Aubameyang takes the ball into the corner before sliding a pass to Kagawa in the inside right channel, but the midfielder just misses it and Baumann gathers.
90'+1 Bender replaces Guerreiro for the final throes of the game.
90' There will be three minutes of added time.
89' CHANCE! Rode slides a delightful pass into the box for Castro's run, but the German just cannot make contact with the goal gaping. Baumann raced off his line and may have done just enough to put the midfielder off striking the ball.
88' Dortmund are adopting the strategy of the best form of defence is attack. They're doing a good job of retaining possession deep in Hoffenheim's half, taking valuable time off the clock.
86' GOALLLLL!!!! GAME ON! KRAMARIC FINDS THE NET! The former Leicester City man hold his nerve from 12 yards as he strikes his effort down the middle of the goal. Burki's dive to the right allows the ball to travel into the net. Hoffenheim have a lifeline with four minutes remaining.
84' PENALTY TO HOFFENHEIM! Wagner is pulled to the ground by Ginter and the referee points to the spot.
82' GOALLLLLL!!!!!! AUBAMEYANG NOTCHES DORTMUND'S SECOND! The striker surely secures the win for the home side as he taps in from close range, atoning for his miss from the penalty spot earlier in the day. Piszczek's cross caused havoc in the box for Hoffenheim and Guerreiro's effort in the left inside channel struck the post. However, the rebound could not have fallen more kindly for Aubameyang, who was left with a simple finish.
81' SAVE! Demirbay goes for the strike from distance and although he gets power on his left-footed strike, Burki gets down well to make the stop.
80' Kagawa replaces Dembele down the flank.
Reus makes way for Rode for the home side.
79' Weigl slides a threatening throughball into the path of Castro, but the German cannot force the ball across the edge of the box to Aubameyang as Vogt makes the challenge. The ball strikes Castro last and bounces out for a goal-kick, highlighting another impressive tackle from the Hoffenheim defender.
77' Szalai sends Wagner away with a neat pass into feet on the edge of the box, but the forward takes a poor first touch and Papastathopoulos is able to make an important clearance. A waste for the visitors.
75' Vogt does well to cut off Aubameyang's run as a forward pass from Piszczek almost left the Hoffenheim defence exposed at the back.
73' OVER! Dembele raids down the left flank and pulls the ball back for Reus in the box. The forward latches on to the ball and strikes with power, but he blazes his effort well over the bar. He should have at least hit the target from that position.
71' Kramaric floats the ball to the back post, but it just evades the head of Szalai as he attempts to beat Ginter. The visitors need to force the issue here.
70' Hubner makes way for Szalai. Nagelsmann has made all of his changes with three strikers now on the pitch.
68' Baumann gathers the cross with ease from the free-kick and Hoffenheim are able to clear their lines. The quality from both sides has not quite been there since the restart.
67' Schmelzer tries to force his way through in the final third, but he gets tripped by Rudy and the home side have a free-kick in a threatening position.
65' Uth makes way for the visitors to be replaced by Amiri.
64' OVER! Dembele pounces on a mistake by Hubner and raids down the right. His cross just evades Reus, but the home side keep the attack alive. Weigl tees up Ginter on the edge of the box, but his left-footed strike travels just over the bar.
63' Dortmund move the ball slowly around the edge of the box before it goes back to Weigl. With few options around him - the midfielder goes for goal, only to scuff his strike straight into the hands of Baumann.
61' OVER! The visitors seize on a mistake from Burki and probe the edge of the box. Demirbay lays the ball into the path of Toljan to strike, but he blazes his effort well over the bar.
59' Demirbay and Ginter get involved in an altercation, which results in the Hoffenheim man heading into the book.
58' Toljan replaces Kaderabek for the visitors.
SAVE! Reus almost doubles his side's lead as he latches on to a long ball over the top from Papastathopoulos. He catches the ball first time on his left foot, but Baumann makes an excellent reaction save to turn his strike over the bar.
57' Dembele goes into the book for kicking out at Hubner on the ground.
56' SAVE! Demirbay has space to raid into 30 yards from goal and he takes on the strike with his left foot. His effort has power and is on target, forcing Burki into the save that he palms out into the middle of the box. Fortunately for him it bounces to a Dortmund player and allows the home side to clear.
55' Dembele has space down the right after beating the challenge of Zuber. He tries to fire a low ball across the face of goal, but Hubner is there to clear the danger. Good defending from the German.
53' Papastathopoulos goes into the book for a challenge on Uth. He won the ball, but his feet were all over the place and could have hurt the striker.
51' The home side press on the edge of the box and only a good internvention from Zuber stops Dembele weaving his way through a wall of blue shirts.
49' Dembele goes on the surge down the right flank and has options in the box. He curls a cross into the area, but Baumann collects with ease.
47' Kramaric wins a free-kick on the left flank as Aubameyang dives in. However, the delivery from Demirbay fails to beat the first man and on the follow-up he's caught offside.
46' Kaderabek's cross is cleared behind for a corner, but the delivery from Rudy is cleared away by Papastathopoulos with a thumping header in the six-yard box.
We're back underway at Signal Iduna Park.
The players are making their way back out on to the pitch, so we should be back underway shortly.
Both managers will be demanding more from their respective teams in the second half, so we should be set for a thrilling 45 minutes of action.
It could have been worse for Julian Nagelsmann's side after Dortmund were awarded a penalty, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired his effort wide of the post. From that point the visitors took control of the game, but were unable to create a clear-cut opening in the final third.
Borussia Dortmund hold a narrow lead at the break thanks to Marco Reus' early strike, although Hoffenheim were far from happy with the decision as it appeared the forward was well offside as he collected the ball.
HALF-TIME: BORUSSIA DORTMUND 1-0 HOFFENHEIM
45'+2 The referee ends the first half.
45'+1 Castro loses possession and goes in hard on Kramaric, resulting in a booking for the midfielder.
45' OFFSIDE! Kramaric collects Demirbay's pass and has a clear run at goal, but the flag goes up for offside. There was not much in that decision and he looked a lot more onside than Reus was for the opener.
44' Reus raids forward this time and tries to slide the ball towards Aubameyang, but Rudy reads the danger to intercept and then to hammer downfield.
43' Aubameyang is having one of those games. As he tries to collect Dembele's pass the ball strikes the back of his foot and allows Vogt to nip in and clear for the visitors.
41' WIDE! Huber rises highest from the resulting corner from Rudy's delivery, but he guides his header just past the post.
40' Uth swings a dangerous cross to the back post for the Kaderabek, but Guerreiro is on hand to clear the ball behind at the back post. Now the visitors can threaten from a set-piece.
38' Hoffenheim clear the danger from the corner and are able to bring the ball out. Quality has been an issue for both teams in the final third this afternoon.
37' Piszczek keeps the ball in down the right and forces a cross towards the near post. Aubameyang looks to make contact, but Hubner clears the ball behind with a vital clearance. Both players hit the deck after colliding with each other, although they appear to be ok.
35' Piszczek and Reus are not on the same page in the final third as the midfielder goes inside, while the pass from the Pole goes down the flank and out for a goal-kick.
33' The tempo of the game has dropped over the past five minutes. It would have been hard for the players to maintain the pace of the early stages and the change will suit the visitors more than Tuchel's men.
31' A quick ball over the top from Dembele almost finds Reus in the right inside channel, but the forward fails to bring it under control and the visitors can clear their lines from the goal-kick.
29' Wagner is brought down by Papastathopoulos on the charge, but the resulting free-kick from Rudy is claimed with ease by Burki as he comes off his line to collect.
28' After a fiery start to the contest - the game has settled into a rhythm, although the home side will not be satisfied with their performance even though they have the lead.
26' Hoffenheim's control of possession has been impressive this afternoon, especially in hostile conditions. They're yet to force Burki into making a quality save as of yet, which will concern Nagelsmann on the touchline.
24' Fortunately for Baumann Dortmund fail to threaten from the corner. However, the home side have looked very dangerous on the break.
23' Burki sends the ball long from his clearance and Baumann almost makes an error as he attempts to guide the ball out. He concedes a corner with the presence of Dembele forcing him into the mistake.
22' CHANCE! Hoffeneheim work the ball down the right and Kaderabek swings a cross in from the flank. Wagner latches on to his delivery in the box, but can only tamely head his effort straight at Burki.
21' Weigl makes an important intervention at the back to stop Demirbay's throughball from reaching Uth in the box. The visitors have been sparked into life by Aubameyang's miss from the spot.
19' Papastathopoulos dispossesses Uth and goes on the charge down the right flank. He raids deep into Hoffenheim territory before attempting a cross, but he overhits his delivery and the ball travels harmlessly out for a goal-kick.
18' Hoffenheim are attempting to control the pace of the game by knocking the ball around the pitch. They're showing good control in their bid to get back into the contest.
16' The referee has a challenge on his hands to keep tempers in check here. The official has played into the atmosphere with a couple of poor decisions, but both teams are reaching boiling point.
15' A fiery game thus far as Uth comes in late on Weigl and goes into the book.
14' MISS! Aubameyang spurns the opportunity to double his side's lead as he strikes his effort wide of the post. Baumann guessed the right way and may have had the effort covered anyway, but that could be a costly miss from the Gabonese.
13' PENALTY TO DORTMUND! Kaderabek handles the ball in the box from Reus' cross and the referee points to the spot.
12' SHOT! Demirbay probes down the right before cutting infield to strike on his left foot. He forces his effort through a crowd of players on the edge of the box, but Burki makes a comfortable save to collect his effort.
11' Reus raises his arms to Huber as the pair clash for the ball, and the midfielder is booked by the referee.
10' Uth drives forward down the right and space opens up for him to strike from 30 yards. However, he gets no power on his effort and the ball is gathered with ease by Burki.
9' All action as Dortmund probe once again through Dembele down the right. His cross just evades Aubameyang in the middle, but Sule is forced to put the ball behind for a corner.
7' Sule tries to thread Kaderabek beyond the Dortmund backline down the right flank, but the full-back is caught offside as he makes his run.
6' Hoffenheim will be extremely annoyed by the linesman's decision. Reus was well offside as he made his run, but after a consulation with his assistant - the referee still awarded the goal.
4' Castro sends a first-time ball for the run of Reus on the left flank, who displays his composure to slot past Baumann.
GOALLLLL!!! REUS FIRES DORTMUND AHEAD! Out of nothing Dortmund take the lead as Castro slides a throughball into the box for the run of his team-mate. Reus cuts inside Vogt before drilling his strike past Baumann from close range. Hoffenheim are furious with the linesman as Reus was well offside as he collected the pass, but the goal still stands.
3' OVER! A long ball forward from the back allows Uth to nod into the path of Wagner to shoot on the half-volley. He blasts his effort at goal from 30 yards, only to send his strike well over the bar.
2' Dortmund probe the edge of the Hoffenheim box, but their first attack of the day ends in an offside decision against Aubameyang in the area.
1' We're underway at Signal Iduna Park.
The players are making their way out on to the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
STAT ATTACK! Dortmund are unbeaten in their last 36 home matches in the Bundesliga. Their last league defeat at Signal Iduna Park came in April 2015 at the hands of Bayern Munich.
STAT ATTACK! Hoffenheim have failed to win their last eight fixtures against Dortmund. Their last win over Die Schwarzgelben came on the final day of the 2012/13 campaign.
Nagelsmann has made one change to his side that beat Eintracht Frankfurt last week. Nadiem Amiri drops to the bench as Mark Uth comes into the side to replace him. He leads the line alongside Sandro Wagner in attack.
Dortmund have made three changes from their goalless draw against Koln last time out. Lukas Piszczek, Raphael Guerreiro and Ousmane Dembele come into the fold this afternoon as Erik Durm, Shinji Kagawa and Christian Pulisic drop out.

The team news has ben announced and we'll start with the home side.
Nagelsmann has done an outstanding job this season, guiding Hoffenheim from 15th in the table last term to reach the Champions League for the first time. The 29-year-old will be determined to end the season on a high note to avoid the play-off round late in the summer.
Dortmund will be doing everything in their power in their final three matches to avoid going through the qualifying rounds of the Champions League. They trail Julian Nagelsmann's men by one point and can leapfrog them in the table with a victory today.
This match is crucial in deciding which round these sides will enter the Champions League. Both teams have secured their place in the competition next term, but Hoffenheim will receive automatic passage into the first round should they remain in third place.
