Qualification:

68 teams qualify for the competition:

- 4 teams relegated from Serie C;

- 4 teams from the state, placed 1st in the CBF ranking nacional das federações;

- 24 teams, 3 teams each from the states, placed 2nd-9th in the CBF ranking nacional das federações;

- 36 teams, 2 teams each from the states, placed 10th-27th in the CBF ranking nacional das federações.





Regular Season:

------------



Format:

68 teams are distributed into 17 groups of 4 teams each on regional basis.

Each team plays the others in its group twice - home and away - for a total of 6 games each, over 6 game weeks.



Scoring points:

3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.



Table order:

1. points won; 2. games won; 3. total goal difference; 4. total goals scored; 5.* points in head-to-head matches; 6.* goal difference in hth matches; 7.* away goals in hth matches; 8. lesser number of red cards received; 9. lesser number of yellow cards received; 10. draw.

* - only applicable if exactly two teams are tied.



Qualification for the Final Stages:

1 place of each group: qualify for the Final Stages

the fifteen best 2nd placed teams: qualify for the Final Stages



Tie-breakers for determining best 2nd placed teams:

1. points won; 2. games won; 3. total goal difference; 4. total goals scored; 5. total away goals scored; 6. draw.





Final Stages:

Format:

32 teams from the Regular Season contest the Serie D champion and promotion in a knockout format.

Teams are seeded, based on their Regular Season performance and the Final Stages pairs are based on that seeding.



16th Finals:

32 teams are distributed into 16 pairs.

Winners are decided over two legs.

The higher seeded teams host the second legs.



8th Finals:

16 teams are distributed into 8 pairs.

Winners are decided over two legs.

The higher seeded teams host the second legs.



Quarter-finals:

8 teams are distributed into 4 pairs

Winners are decided over two legs.

The higher seeded teams host the second legs.



Semi-finals:

4 teams are distributed into 2 pairs

Winners are decided over two legs.

The higher seeded teams host the second legs.



Final:

The two Semi-finals winners meet each other with the winner becoming Serie D champion.

Winner is decided over two legs.

The team with the higher average points per game total in all Regular Season and Final Stages matches so far hosts the second leg.



Tie-breakers for the knockout matches:

1. aggregate score from the two legs, 2. penalties.



Relegation to the league:

4 teams from Serie C



Promotion from the league:

the four Semi-finals winners: promoted to Serie C
