All teams are eligible for participation, provided they participated in any of last season's FA Cup, FA Trophy or FA vase.

737 teams enter the competition:
- all 20 Premier League teams;
- all 24 Championship teams;
- all 24 League One teams;
- all 24 League Two teams;
- all 24 National League teams;
- all 44 National League N / S teams;
- all 72 Non League Premier teams;
- all 136 Non League Div One teams;
- 369 lower level teams.

The 136 Non League Div One teams enter the competition directly at the Preliminary Round.
The 72 Non League Premier teams enter the competition directly at the 1st Round Qualifying.
The 44 National League teams enter the competition directly at the 2nd Round Qualifying.
The 24 National League teams enter the competition directly at the 4th Round Qualifying.
the 24 League Two teams enter the competition directly at the 1st Round.
The 24 League One teams enter the competition directly at the 1st Round.
The 24 Championship teams enter the competition directly at the 3rd Round.

The two Semi-finals winners meet each other with the winner becoming FA Cup winner.
