507 teams enter the competition.

The 43 U18 teams of the clubs, playing in the Premier League and Championship enter the competition directly at the 3rd Round.
The 46 U18 teams of clubs, playing in League One and League Two enter the competition directly at the 1st Round.

Players born on or after 1 September 1999 and before 1 September 2002 are eligible for participation.


Knockout stage:

3rd Round Qualifying:
76 teams from the 2nd Round Qualifying are drawn into 38 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

1st Round:
38 teams from the 3rd Round Qualifying and 46 teams that enter the competition at this stage are drawn into 42 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

2nd Round:
42 teams from the 1st Round are drawn into 21 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

3rd Round:
21 teams from the 2nd Round and the 43 teams that enter the competition at this stage are drawn into 32 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

4th Round:
32 teams are drawn into 16 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

5th Round:
16 teams are drawn into 8 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Quarter-finals:
8 teams are drawn into 4 pairs.
Winners are decided over one leg, with extra time and penalties if score is level after regular time.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Semi-finals:
4 teams are drawn into 2 pairs.
Winners are decided over two legs.
Hosting is determined by the draw.

Final:
The two Semi-finals winners meet each other with the winner becoming FA Youth Cup winner.
Winner is decided over two legs.
Hosting is determined by draw.

Tie-breakers for the Semi-finals and Final knockout matches:
1. aggregate score from the two legs, 2. extra time, 3. penalties.
