Sharks stunned by Taylor show, Broncos fight back to beat Knights

15 July 2017 14:53

Ash Taylor tormented Cronulla Sharks as Gold Coast Titans beat the NRL defending premiers 30-10 on a miserable night at Cbus Super Stadium after Brisbane Broncos came from behind to defeat Newcastle Knights.

The Titans completed a double over the Sharks to move up to 12th spot in a match played in torrential rain that left standing water on the pitch on Saturday.

Taylor was certainly not hampered by the conditions, scoring a try in each half and pulling the strings as the Titans showed they may yet be able to claim what would be an unlikely play-off spot.

The Sharks had plenty of ball in the first half, but trailed 8-0 at the break after Konrad Hurrell got on the end of a grubber from halfback Taylor to dot down before the half-back scored a try of his own.

Shane Flanagan's men were blown away after the interval, Taylor registering his second four-pointer prior to laying on another for Kevin Proctor. Joe Greenwood and Pat Politoni added further tries as the Titans ran riot.

Kurt Capewell and Sosaia Feki went over in the final 10 minutes, but the damage had long since been done

The Broncos moved above Cronulla into second spot, but they were made to work for a 34-22 win at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Wayne Bennett's men trailed his former club 12-6 at half-time, but Anthony Milford scored a try on his return from six weeks on the sidelines due to a shoulder injury and Korbin Sims also touched down against his ex-employers in a Broncos fightback.

Jordan Kahu scored 14 points on the night - including the opening try - for a Broncos side that remain on course for a top-four finish.
