24 June 2018 20:27

Bill Tupou scored a try in each half as Wakefield Trinity consigned sorry Widnes Vikings to an 11th consecutive Super League defeat with a 44-22 drubbing at Belle Vue.

Francis Cummins' wait for first victory as Widnes interim head coach goes on after rampant Wakefield scored eight tries to consolidate sixth spot on Sunday.

The rapid Tom Johnstone set the ball rolling by taking advantage of some suspect defending to score a superb solo try and Ben Jones-Bishop went over before Tupou took a delayed Max Jowitt pass to add a third try.

Ryan Hampshire's converted score put Wakefield 22-0 up at the break and further tries from Tupou and James Batchelor either side of a Stefan Marsh finish for the visitors increased Trinity's advantage.

Danny Walker, Alex Gerrard and Ryan Ince claimed a try apiece as Widnes showed character, but the damage had already been done.

Tinirau Arona and Reece Lyne crossed in the final five minutes of what was a comfortable win for Chris Chester's men, leaving Widnes still three points behind second-bottom Hull KR.
