Franklin reported as Hawks crush Port Adelaide

10 June 2012 11:41

Franklin was booked for a sling tackle during the final term of the Hawks' commanding 16.12 (108) to 9.8 (62) triumph after upending Paul Stewart in a crunching tackle.

Fresh off his 13-goal performance against North Melbourne last week, Franklin was busy and always looked dangerous against the Power, finishing with 4.4 and a host of highlights, but he will be in the news at the start of the week for the wrong reasons.

Hawthorn set up their victory - which snapped the Power's three-match winning streak - with a one-sided opening quarter in which they totally overwhelmed the previously revitalised Power to lead by 25 points at the first break.

The highlight was acting skipper Jarryd Roughead's awesome goal in the 18th minute, a quick-thinking left-footed soccer effort from a tight angle after he spilt a mark in a one-on-one with Jackson Trengove.

Hawthorn were made to work harder for their goals in the second period, but they were rewarded for some inspirational acts and still led by 31 points at half-time.

Hawthorn pressed their advantage in the third stanza, Franklin adding two more and Roughead slotting his second, a splendid left-foot snap as the margin grew to 46 points at three-quarter-time.

Franklin's report was a rare sour point in an otherwise dominant fourth term, in which the visitors added a bit of icing with teenage substitute Bradley Hill kicking his first career goal, then adding his second to extend the margin to 65 points.

Port added a couple late through substitute Cameron Hitchcock and Schulz, but there was no doubt the Hawks were the far superior outfit.
